A Place for Community
The cap over interstate I-40 is a proposal that has been considered for decades. This is my realization of this idea. The cap has been long overdue this community was ripped in half when the interstate finished construction and now it needs to be stitched back together.
A Place of Gathering
The courtyard that faces the street corner engages the street to create a place where people will want to gather. It includes a informal cafe and a view into the art gallery and sculpture garden.
A Place of Culture
The rain screen gets its holes from the Fisk Jubilee Singers. The size of the holes is derived from the frequency of the song. This screen also provides ample privacy and shade for the occupants of the building.
